Lewis Reid Brown, 84, departed this life on April 18, 2023, surrounded by his family. Born in Leesville, Louisiana, Lewis was a proud graduate of Leesville High School and a resident of Baton Rouge. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture from LSU in 1962 before serving in the U.S. Navy from 1962 until 1966. Upon his return to Louisiana, Lewis worked for Barron Heinberg & Brocato Architects & Engineers in Alexandria until 1969. From there, he went into private practice as an architect in Alexandria until 1996. In 1988, he received recognition from the Louisiana Architects Association for his historical restoration of the Alexandria Transit Center. He also designed the cancer center and cafeteria renovation at St. Frances Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria, and in his capacity as a roofing expert, was a frequent fixture on the roof of Holy Savior Menard Central High School. In 1996, he went to work for the Division of Administration, Facility Planning and Control in Baton Rouge, where he served as a Project Manager until his retirement in 2012. In addition to architecture, Lewis was an avid chess player and longtime member of the US Chess Federation, an LSU Tiger superfan, and a lover of history. A wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Lewis will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Lewis is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Brenda Bybee Brown; daughters, Melissa Bybee Brown and Sharon Furrate Bailey (Joseph Bailey); as well as grandson, Timothy Cameron Reid Furrate.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Ihleene Brown; brother, Robert Lee Brown; and beloved dachshunds, Tutu, April and Queenie.
Services will be held on Friday, April 28 at 1:00 P.M. at Trinity Episcopal Church in Baton Rouge with Reverend Peter Wong officiating. Interment at Trinity will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Trinity Endowment Fund in the name of Lewis Reid Brown or to Friends of the Animals Baton Rouge.
