Lester Joseph Gremillion died at his home on December 13, 2021, at the age of 89. Born on October 28, 1932, in Rougon, Louisiana to Jeanne Guidroz Gremillion and Willie Gremillion. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Freida Cifreo and Sherrod Gremillion. Lester graduated from Rougon High School in 1950. He earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and 2nd Lieutenant in U.S. Army Ordnance Corp at Louisiana State University in 1955. Served two years in the U.S. Army 832nd Special Weapons Battalion. Lester’s career in the chemical industry spanned for 36 years. He retired in 1994 as Director of Engineering at DSM Copolymer in Baton Rouge. Lester was an avid Louisiana outdoorsman with a love for hunting and fishing. He spent many years at “The Place” in Clinton hunting with his son, son-in-law, grandsons, and friends. He was a die-hard LSU Tiger fan, attending football and basketball games for many years and a member of the LSU Alumni Association and TAF. On March 5, 1955, he married the love of his life, Bonnie Holliday Gremillion. He was her rock and protector. He loved her deeply and left a legacy that will carry on for generations. Bonnie lovingly cared for Lester throughout his illness. Together they had three children whom he loved deeply and instilled his values of dedication to family, education, and a strong work ethic. Survived by his wife, his three children and their spouses- Rodney and Lenny Gremillion, Leslie and Bob Gemmill and Renee’ and David Anderson, ten grandchildren- Brian Gremillion (April), Jeff Gremillion (Kristen), Stephen Anderson (Susan Hall), Will Anderson (Whitney), Katherine Gemmill, Emily Anderson, Chelsey Capell, Laura Gemmill, Thomas Anderson (Gabrielle) and Dustin Capell, eleven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Special thank you to Dr. Bryan Bienvenu, Dr. Joseph Albergamo and his loving caretakers, Mary, Ameenah, Rita and Sea’Aria. Pallbearers will be Lester’s grandsons and Bobby Messenger. In lieu of flowers donations to Hospice of Baton Rouge, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, and the National Federation of the Blind. A visitation will be held on Monday, December 20th from 10-11am at Greenoaks Funeral Home with a funeral service to begin at 11am.
