He was preceded in death by his parents: William Mumford and Bessie West Stirling. He was also preceded by his brother: William M. Stirling, Jr. (Bill) and his wife Betty Jean Poirrier Stirling, and also his sister-in-law Shirley Paxton Stirling, infant niece, Laurie Linfield Stirling, and great nephew Ryan Hillary Stirling.
He lived his whole life in Baton Rouge. He graduated from Baton Rouge High School, and received a BS and a MA from Louisiana State University.
He had a lifetime of travel camping throughout the United States. He loved all things aviation, Dodge/Chrysler/Plymouth, and the Civil War. He took LSU coach’s game films with his brothers and uncle during the Coach Charlie McClendon era.
He was employed by the Louisiana Department of Labor as Unemployment Specialist. He retired in 2004; however, he returned to help with the overflow employment claims as a result of Hurricane Katrina.
He is survived by his brother Louis West Stirling. Four nephews and 3 nieces: William M. Stirling III (Chip), and his wife BB. David G. Stirling and his wife Terry. Mark J. Stirling and his wife Robin. G. Lee Stirling and his wife Kim. Carolyn (Barrie) Stirling Willis and her husband, Rev. Chan Willis. Susan Stirling McKey and her husband John Iverson (Bubba) McKey. Claire Stirling Welsh and her husband Dr. John Welsh.

A memorial service will take place at First Presbyterian Church, 763 North Blvd, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70802 on Monday, January 30, 2023 at 12:30 p.m. and a graveside service will follow at Grace Episcopal Church Cemetery, 11621 Ferdinand St, St. Francisville, Louisiana 70775.
