Katherine Lee Williams Thom, 88, died peacefully Tuesday morning, Feb. 23, 2010, at Ollie Steele Burden Manor. She was born in Amite on Flag Day, June 14, 1921. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt. She enjoyed reading her Bible, the newspaper, sewing, ceramics and gardening.
She was an alumna of the Louisiana State School for the Deaf, and a member of the First Baptist Deaf Church. She was a co-founder and owner of Thom’s Poultry Farm, which supplied fresh eggs to many customers for a number of years. She enjoyed her travels with her family to Boston, Washington, D.C., and Walt Disney World. She also traveled with the Airstreamers to Lake Placid, N.Y., Niagara Falls, Canada, and Amherst, Mass., and met many friends along the way. She also traveled to Baptist gatherings at Ridgecrest, N.C., and Glorieta in New Mexico. She is survived by her daughter Kathy Spillman and son-in-law Dale; Grandson Louis M.Spillman and his children Joey, Kourtney and Logan Spillman. Grandaughter Tamara S. Hawkins, Jerry and their children Joe, Samantha and Abigail Hawkins; Granddaughter Katherine S. Oliver and Air Force Capt. Aaron Oliver and their daughter Alexis Katherine. Son, Wesley W. Thom III and daughter-in-law Carol, of Baker; granddaughter Traci T. Blanchard and Dean; Grandson Scott Thom, Lydia and Logan Thom, of Central; and her brother and sister-in-law Robert and Jo Williams, of Memphis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley W. Thom Jr.; parents Katherine Weigel Williams, of Amite, and Lee Terry Williams, of Many, La.; her brothers Lee Terry Williams, of Amite, and Huey Long Williams, of New Orleans. Thanks to all the caregivers and nurses at Ollie Steele Burden Manor. Visitation at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd. from 6 p.m. -8 p.m. Wednesday. Visitation Thursday at 9 a.m., followed by service at 10 a.m. Burial at Roselawn Memorial Park.
