Joyce Ruth D’Aubin Ellis, age 90, entered Heaven Tuesday, October 26 surrounded by her children at her home in Baton Rouge. Joyce was born February 6, 1931 in New Orleans to Leo John and Annetta Leyers D’Aubin. After family moves to Monticello, IN and Miami, Fl, she moved back to New Orleans her senior year of high school, where she met her future husband. In 1955, after prolonged negotiation, she relented and married the love of her life, Frederick Wallace Ellis. After Fred graduated from law school, they moved to Lake Charles, then settled back in Baton Rouge in 1966. Through her years, Joyce was loved by her family, always making a welcoming home for all. Her subtle sense of humor, relaxed demeanor, and patience with many bad jokes earned the respect and love of her family and children’s many friends. It was hard to outlive her beloved husband, brothers and sisters, but she carried on gracefully. We are left with grateful hearts for Joyce and are comforted knowing that through our shared faith in Jesus Christ, we will be together again. Joyce is survived by her four children, Pamela Susan Stoewer (Chuck), Frederick (“Rick”) John Ellis (Tania), Richard Charles Ellis, and David Christopher Ellis (Jennifer). She was blessed with 11 grandchildren, Ryan and Caroline Stoewer, Andrew, Kathy, Sarah and Adam Ellis, Freddie, Cameron, and Gabriel Ellis, and Margaret and Samuel Ellis, and 4 great-grandchildren, Aiden, Aurora, Luna, and Reese. She is also survived by her brother John Lewis D’Aubin (Cindy) and many nieces and nephews. Joyce lost her beloved husband, Fred, in 1994. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and siblings Vivian Ullrich, Leo G. (“Jack”) D’Aubin, William G. (“Bill”) D’Aubin, Richard C. (“Dick”) D’Aubin, and Jean Champeau. Special thanks to loving caregivers Marianne McDaniel, Danielle Sommers, Shirley Marks, Michelle Williams, Bridgeway Hospice, and family friend Dara Blackburn. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Saturday, Oct 30th from 10 am until funeral service at 12:30 pm. Burial will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park.
