A native of Albany, LA and a longtime resident of Baton Rouge, LA, he died on December 7, 2013, the day before his 86th birthday, after a brief illness. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and Air Force. He retired from WAFB-TV with 42 years of service and was a local business owner. He enjoyed his retirement by working in his yard and volunteering for Habitat for Humanities. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and an usher at St. Aloysius Church. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Catherine Robertson Prokop; two sons, Joseph A. Prokop, Jr. of Baton Rouge, LA and David R. Prokop of Bueche, LA; two daughters, Mary P. Groesbeck of Fergus Falls, MN and Catherine P. Broussard of New Iberia, LA; seven grandchildren; three brothers, Julius Prokop, William Prokop and Louis Prokop, all of Albany, LA; along with nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Andy Prokop and Mary Megyesi Prokop of Albany, LA. The family would like to express its appreciation to Drs. Patrick Gahan and Mary Stringfellow and the staff at OLOL for their kind and considerate care. Visitation will be at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government Street, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 11, 2013. Visitation will continue at St. Aloysius Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 12, 2013, followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. with interment at Roselawn Memorial Park.
