Joseph Monroe Markey Jr., 79, born in Baton Rouge on October 11, 1932 passed away at his residence in Torbert, LA on June 17, 2012. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in the 30th Infantry. He was a retired pipefitter for Local 198 and a member of Faith Baptist Church in Livonia. He is survived by his wife Barbara Chadwick Markey; children: Vickie Jeansonne and husband Sid, and Mike Traylor Markey; stepdaughters: Gloridean Hill, and Glenda Major and husband Roger; special friends David East and wife Debbie, and his loving puppy Mickey; sisters Pat Nixon, Judy Roy and husband Lonnie, brother John Markey and wife Shirley; 5 grandchildren, numerous great and great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Delcie Markey Sr.; two brothers Russel and William Markey; son Joseph Markey II, and 2 stepsons Joel Hill and James Hill; and 2 granddaughters and a niece. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 19, 2012 from 5-8pm and continuing on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 from 9am until time of services at 10am. Interment will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Services will be performed by Freddie Rodrigue, Pastor of Faith Baptist Church in Livonia. Pallbearers will be Winston Blaylock, Bruce Davis, David East, James Spence, Daniel Spencer and Curtis Greenlee. Roger Major will be an honorary pallbearer. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Faith Baptist Church in Livonia for their building fund.
