Joseph Verlin "Joe" Fontenot, a native of Chataignier and resident of Baton Rouge, passed away Thursday, January 8, 2015, at the age of 78 after a brief illness. Mr. Fontenot was retired from American Bank where he was a Vice President of Consumer Lending Collections with 32 years of service. Visitation will be held at St. Jean Vianney Catholic Church on Saturday, January 10, 2015, from 10 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 12 noon officiated by Rev. Tom Ranzino. Burial will be at 3 pm in the Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas, La. Joe is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jane Fontenot; one daughter, Ana "Tasia" Fontenot; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Eula Fontenot and a brother, John Roland Fontenot. Mr. Fontenot served as an usher at St. Jean Vianney Catholic Church, a Marshal for LSU athletics at the football games, and an avid fisherman. He was a graduate of the AIB banking school and an advisor with Jr. Achievement. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation for all those who provided such loving care during Joe's illness.
