"The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want…" Psalm 23:1. An awesome husband, father and pawpaw, Joseph Batista "J.B." Culmone Sr., entered into eternal rest after a lingering illness at his home on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. Born on July 23, 1935, J.B. was a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge. He was a 1953 graduate of Catholic High School and attended LSU. After serving in the National Guard Reserve, J.B. married Kathryn Patricia Ferguson on Feb. 17, 1957. He was a self-employed contractor and an active member of the Catholic High Alumni. J.B. was an avid fisherman and shared his love of fishing with family and friends. Always a jokester, J.B. kept his beloved grandchildren entertained with his sense of humor and antics. He will live forever in the hearts of those he cherished. Survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Kathryn Patricia "Pat" Ferguson Culmone; children, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Russell Culmone, Frankie Joseph Culmone, Rodney and Bertha Culmone Hodges, Kent and Marie Culmone Dekerlegand, Judith Culmone Rhodus, Joseph Batista Jr. and Shirlene Culmone, and Todd and Nannette Culmone Sunde. He also leaves behind 21 adoring grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his beloved parents, Albert Batista Culmone and Bertha Vuci Culmone. Visitation at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., on Tuesday, Jan. 10, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 445 Marquette Ave., on Wednesday Jan. 11, from 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. celebrated by the Rev. Miles Walsh. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Frankie Culmone, Joe Culmone, Lane Hodges, Kent Dekerlegand, Todd Sunde, Kevin Humble, Justin Crawford and Rod Hodges.
