"Joseph Raphael (Ray) Boyd 95, was born in New Roads LA. He was the beloved second born son of the late William Boyd Sr. and Virginia LeBeau-Boyd. Ray, as he was affectionately known by his extend family and friends, moved to Baton Rouge, where he retired after working at the United States Postal Service for over 32 years. Raphael died Saturday, May 20th, 2017 at St. Clair Manor. Joseph Raphael was married to Stella Hébert Boyd for 70 years. They are the proud parents of T. Marlene Boyd-Clark and Raphael Gaylord Boyd. Ray was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, and he served as Secretary for the National Alliance of Postal and Federal Employees (N.A.P.F.E.). He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many friends. He would also spend much of his post retirement time volunteering at St. Vincent DePaul Council of Baton Rouge. He leaves to cherish his memory a loving devoted wife, Stella Hébert Boyd; one sister, Verna St. Amant (Eugene); one brother James Larry (Phyllis) of Riverside, CA; sisters-in-law, Velma Bell Boyd of Cypress CA (William Jr.); a daughter T. Marlene Boyd-Clark (Henry); one son, Gaylord Raphael Boyd; three grandchildren Raphael G. Boyd II (Marva), Ezra Joseph Boyd and E'man Marie Boyd (Sarah); two great grandchildren Brianna Marie Boyd and Carrington M. Boyd (Carla and Raphael); and a host of nieces and nephews who treasured him as the family's reigning and loving patriarch. He was preceded in death by his parents, Virginia and William Boyd Sr.; brothers William, Jr., George, Sidney, Wesley and George Evans; brothers-in-law Jesse Hébert Sr., Felix Hébert Jr., Ashton Bird Sr., Allison Figaro; sisters-in-law, Eleanora Figaro Hébert; Mildred Hébert Bird, Cora Lee Hébert Figaro, Thelma D. Boyd, Catherine Boyd, Bertha Boyd, Carrie Evans and Gloria G. Hébert. Visitation will be on Friday, May 26, 2017 at St. Agnes Catholic church (749 East Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA 70802) from 9:00 am until the Funeral Mass at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. The family wishes to thank everyone for their prayers, well wishes, numerous acts of kindness during this time. A special thanks to the staff of Charity Hospital of Baton Rouge and the various medical personnel who provided for and attended his needs with courtesy, passion and professionalism.
