John Albert Hayes Jr. passed away September 29, 2023 at his home. He was born to Jack and Theresa Pistorio Hayes in Los Angeles 1941. The family moved to Wells, Maine where John graduated from Wells High School 1960. He went to the University of Maine on a scholarship and graduated in chemical engineering in 1964. In 1968, the family moved to Baton Rouge where John worked at various plants and engineering firms. He retired in 2018.
John's passion was LSU Track & Field and he served as a track official for over 40 years. Recently, he was a starting and finish line judge and clerk of course. He officiated many high school meets in the Baton Rouge area including many for Episcopal High. He was a member of the Baton Rouge Kids Baseball Clinic for many years as well.
John was a member of the Baton Rouge Jaycees and served as President and other offices; and John was very involved in the JCI Senate and continued to attend quarterly meetings throughout the United States.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Michael and his brother, Robert.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Karen Bridges Hayes; his daughter, Stephanie Gervais (Ron); his son, Christopher (Laurie); four grandchildren, Jillian Cox, John “Trey” Cox (Benit); Tyler Hayes and Peyton Hayes; seven great grandchildren, Skylar, Leo, Kawhi, Ky-mani, Kayliyah, Kyler and Kourtney and one great great granddaughter, Camryn.
The family will have a gathering at a later date. Interment will be at Ocean View Cemetery, Wells Maine.
