John R. Fell

Our Big Daddy died May 24, 2014 peacefully at the age of 82 surrounded by his loving children at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge, LA. Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 from 9:30-11:00 a.m. at St. Jude the Apostle Church, 9150 Highland Rd, Baton Rouge, LA. A mass of Christian burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. celebrated by Rev, Trey Nelson and Rev. Michael Collins. Entombment will follow mass at St. George Catholic Church mausoleum, on Siegen Ln. He was a member of St. Jude the Apostle Church since its founding in 1966 and faithfully served in many ministries over the years. John was also a volunteer at the Medical Plaza of Our Lady of Lake and served as a Eucharistic minister for the hospital. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War with the 25th Infantry, graduated from L.S.U. as a civil engineer, and spent a large part of his career with Barnard&Burk. He was married to Elizabeth Hebert "Honey" Fell for 57 years who preceded him in death in 2012. He tremendously enjoyed hunting arid fishing with his sons, sons-in-law, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. And he was always ready for another game of cards with anyone in the family. He had a special place in his heart for all of the ladies in the family and was always ready for another hug. Big Daddy was our rock. He and our mom gave us the foundation of our faith and family which will be seen for generations to come. What a great legacy. Words cannot express our gratitude. The family wishes to thank Donald and Betty Jo Strain for all of the love and support they gave our parents and family since their childhood. We also want to thank the phenomenal doctors and staff at Our Lady of Lake Hospital for their care. We are truly blessed to have had all of them in our lives. John is survived by daughter Cheryl Lynn (Fell) Blum and husband Scott, grandson Madison S. Blum; son John Steven Fell and wife Karen, grandchildren Elizabeth L. Fell, John R. Fell and wife Michele, great grandson Colden Fell; daughter Denise Gayle (Fell) Thibodeaux and husband Michael, grandson John J. Thibodeaux and great grandchildren Jack, Alice, and Audrey Thibodeaux, grandson Christopher J. Thibodeaux and wife Gabriel, great grandchildren Magdalena and Beatrice Thibodeaux, grandsons Michael S. and Brian M. Thibodeaux; son Vincent Hebert Fell and wife Patricia, grandsons Nicholas H. and Patrick V. Fell, step grandchildren Allison Thompson and husband David, step great grandchildren Dylan and Ainsley Thompson, step grandchildren Kieth and Jennifer Richard; son William Mathew Fell and wife Vonda, grandsons Ian M. and Isaac R. Fell.
