John E. Butler, 67, a native of Port Allen, La, and a longtime resident of Baton Rouge, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, Sept. 16, 2011 at 7:00 pm, in the comfort of holding the hands of his two surviving children. John was born on October 16, 1943. He was a graduate of Port Allen High School and Southeastern Louisiana University. John retired from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana after over 30 years of dedicated services as the Vice President of Sales and Marketing. He had a passion for playing golf, fishing, and cooking crawfish stew and “smoked-turkey gumbo” during the holiday season. John’s sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him, and he was a blessing to his family and friends. John is survived by daughter Lauren Butler Britt, MD, of Birmingham, Al and son Randall John Butler (Randy) of Houston, TX; seven grandchildren, Jacob, Anna, Julia, and William Britt and Sydney, Justin and Jonathan Butler; four sisters, Betty Williams, Leigh Knox, Helen Jendrich and Bonnie Butler. He was preceded in death by his parents Leona Ritter Butler and John Everett Butler, Jr., and his beloved son Darren Everett Butler. Pallbearers will be Phil Dimattia, David Butler, George Butler, Wayne Vines, Trae Brasher, Jerry Dill, Charles Williams, and Ryan LaRussa. Honorary Pallbearers will be David Butler, Sr. and Robert Dardenne. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Thursday September 22nd from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm with a special celebration memorial of his life at 8:00 pm. Visitation will resume at Greenoaks on September 23rd at 8:00 am until service at 10:00, interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. The family requests that if you have a special photograph of or with him that you bring it to the visitation.
