John Albert Bowser MMCS (SS) U.S. Navy Ret. a native of New Brighton, Minnesota, and a resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, since 1984; he was 82. He was born May 18, 1940. He died February 22, 2023 at Jefferson Manor Nursing Home of natural causes. He was a 1958 graduate of Valley High School, Lucasville, Ohio; and received an Associate's Degree from Pensacola Jr. College in Pensacola, Florida, in 1974. He retired from the United States Navy Submarine Service as a Senior Chief Petty Officer in 1978, after serving 20 years, and retired from Entergy Operations at Riverbend Nuclear Station in St. Francisville, Louisiana, as a senior purchasing agent after 15 years of service. John loved fishing in the Gulf of Mexico. Being from Minnesota, he always said he would rather fish in water than shovel it He was a member of the Submarine Veterans Association of Baton Rouge.
A visitation will take place at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church at 445 Marquette Avenue, Baton Rouge, LA 70806 from 9:00 am until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am, celebrated by the Rev. Cleo Milano. Mr. Bowser chose to be cremated. A military burial will follow Mass at Roselawn Memorial Park, 4045 North Street, Baton Rouge LA 70806.
Survived by his loving wife, Betty Jean Muffoletto Bowser, a son and wife, John Christopher and Kim Bowser of Vicksburg, Mississippi, and three daughters and husbands, Martha J. and Steve Setzer of Huntsville, Alabama; Mary B. and Jimmy Phillips of Mize, Mississippi; and Maria K. and Randy Jones of Zachary, a step-son Charles Jeffrey Lea and wife Roxie Lea and a step-daughter Lisa Lea White and husband Edwin J. White; two sisters Karen MacKinnon of Tampa, Florida; and Kathleen Williford of Franklin, NC; two brothers-in-law Joseph Vincent Muffoletto (Linda) of Bainbridge Island, Washington, and Samuel Jay Muffoletto (Alla) of Baton Rouge. John leaves behind 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. John also leaves behind six step-grandchildren: Logan, Katelyn, and Madison Lea DeLuca and Courtney and Christen Smith, and Liza Lea White. John was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Robert and Jeannette Marguerite Bordeaux Bowser and granddaughter Sarah Hynum. He was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church.
