Jimmy Mathes passed away peacefully on June 9, 2024, at the age of 79. Beloved husband of Jane Weaver Mathes, devoted father of Bobby Mathes of Baton Rouge and his wife Jenn; Daniel Mathes of Baton Rouge and his wife Jennifer; and Betty Mathes Tanory of Baton Rouge and her husband Robert. Adoring Pops of Harper and Grant Mathes; Emile and Landry Mathes; and Annie, Peter and Rosie Tanory. Loving uncle of many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Betty Seat Mathes; his stepmother Mary Cochran Mathes; his sister Charlotte Mathes Potts; his in-laws, Peter and Rose Weaver; his brothers-in-law, Darryl Keeter and Harlan Potts; and his grandson James Tanory. He is also survived by his brother David Mathes and his wife Betty Faye; his sister Jerry Mathes Travers and her husband Bill; his brother Jay Mathes and his wife Karen; and his sister-in-law, Mary Ann Keeter.
Jimmy was born in Longview, WA, in 1944, and moved to Louisiana early on residing in Baton Rouge where he graduated from Lee High School. Jimmy served on the USS Oriskany while serving in the Navy. He met Jane, his loving wife of 52 years, while attending USL in Lafayette. Working as an engineer, Jimmy and Jane settled in Baton Rouge where Jimmy loved spending time with his family, volunteering at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, and cheering on the LSU Tigers. Jimmy was a man of few words, but every word was kind, patient and honest. He will be deeply missed by friends and family.
Visitation will be at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 11441 Goodwood Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA 70815, on Thursday, June 13th from 10:00am until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30am. Burial will immediately follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park, 9595 Florida Boulevard 70815.
