Jerrilyn S. Scott, 81, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, passed away Palm Sunday, April 2, 2023. Jerrilyn was born in Hannibal, MO and lived part of her early childhood in Portland, Oregon. She returned to Hannibal and while in high school met the love of her life, Wesley Scott. In 1966, they decided to move to Baton Rouge where they raised their family. Together they had three children and were blessed with 30 wonderful years of marriage before Wes’ death in 1994.
Jerri is survived by her two daughters and a son along with their spouses, 9 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.
Jill (daughter) and Jerry Brignac with granddaughter Chelsea Brignac Hammond (husband Dylan) and grandson Carrington Brignac.
Kelly (daughter) and Rusty Lavergne with grandson Dylan (wife Casey) and grandsons Landan and Remington Lavergne.
Jason (son) and Susan Scott with granddaughter Hannah Scott Bickham (husband Nic) and grandsons Colton, Garrett and Quentin Scott.
With two great-grandchildren, Margo and Wesley Bickham.
Jerrilyn drove a school bus for the East Baton Rouge Public School System for 26 years. She considered it a privilege to be a small part of the students' lives and had great memories of her time spent as a driver. Upon retirement, Jerri continued to use her love of driving to volunteer with The American Cancer Society where she faithfully drove many patients to and from their treatments. Again, she considered it an honor to offer a free ride but also comfort, support, and much needed prayers to so many who were in the middle of difficult battles.
Our mom was a rare, beautiful soul full of kindness, loyalty and compassion who loved her family unconditionally. She was smart, silly, hilarious, fiercely independent, generous beyond measure, gracious to all, and truly selfless. She loved jumping in her car for an afternoon car ride which often ended with a stop to get some of her much loved ice cream. But all of this doesn’t tell the most important part of Jerrilyn. Our mom was a Christian. She loved her Lord and Savior above all else. She had a compassionate servant's heart and shared her faith with her children, grandchildren and the many lives she touched with her love. Jerrilyn truly had a heart for Jesus and it showed through in her bright smile and prettiest blue eyes. Reading her Bible, attending church with each of her children, or listening to livestreams when no longer physically able to attend services were just part of her everyday life. She gave God the glory and praise for always taking care of her in the days after the death of her beloved Wes and the many years since.
We are humbled to call her mom and although she will be missed dearly by her family and all who knew her, we rejoice knowing she has received her reward and is with her Lord and Savior in Heaven. Well done, good and faithful servant!
