James Gayden Crane, III, passed away in his home surrounded by his family on April 13, 2022. Jamie was born on January 15, 1986 and grew up in Baton Rouge, LA. After a lifetime of battling cystic fibrosis,
Jamie was granted ten extra years through the selfless gift of organ transplant both in 2012 and again in
2016. Jamie was fierce, loyal, kind, funny and persevered through all the adversity he faced in his 36 years. He fought to the very end to spend as much time with his family and friends as his body would allow. We are thankful for each day that we got to spend with him and the world is a better place for having had him in it. Even though he was often sick he always had a smile on his face and a joke to share with whomever he was with. Jamie is survived by his wife Kristen and their two children Caroline and James IV, his mother Linda Crane and father Jim Crane, brothers Kyle Crane (Kathleen), Hunter Crane, and Brady Crane all of Baton Rouge, grandmother Jeanette Johnson, and his cousin Chris Harr (Emily) who was like a brother to him and cousin Jenae Wiggley; as well as a host of other relatives near and far. He is preceded in death by his sister Amanda, and grandparents, James Crane, Edith Crane, and Wilbur Johnson and cousin Dana Bass. Jamie lived every day for his children and his greatest joy was to be their dad. He took great pride in being the “favorite uncle” to his nieces and nephews. He was an avid lover of sports and knew stats like no one else. He especially loved watching college basketball and football, and playing golf with his dad. He was an unapologetic Florida Gators fan even here in LSU country. It brought him immense joy to torment the rest of us with his orange and blue. He was also a lover of Disney World and enjoyed taking trips with his brothers and his wife and children over the years. If you were ever in the room with him and his brothers you would find them quoting obscure movies to one another as they shared a love of film. Having his brothers as his best friends meant so much to him. The family would like to thank Bridgeway Hospice for making Jamie’s last days peaceful, the lung transplant team at UPMC for making it possible for Jamie to have his last months at home with his family, and the countless individuals who lifted him up in prayer over the course of his life. Visitation and funeral will be held at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government Street, Baton Rouge, LA. Visitation from 5 pm to 7 pm Thursday, April 21. Visitation from 9am until services at 10am, Friday April 22. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, or to the University Laboratory School in his memory.
