A native of Lumberton, MS and long-time resident of Baton Rouge, LA, Jimmy passed away on Monday, August 2, 2021 at the age of 80. He joined the United States Army at the age of 18 and served honorably until his discharge 4 years later. He was a well-respected florist in Baton Rouge having been in the floral business (Flowers by Jimmy Thomas) for more than 50 years. Following retirement, James continued his love of flowers and gardening through his home garden being featured in many magazines. He won an award with the Better Business Bureau for the Highest Standards of Professional Service. Jimmy routinely donated his floral and decorating expertise to his church, First Baptist Church of Baton Rouge. He is greatly loved and will be dearly missed.
Jimmy is survived by partner Vincent A. Pecoraro of Baton Rouge, LA; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents Aubrey G. Thomas, Sr. and Tera Byrd Thomas; siblings, Howard D. Thomas, Aubrey G. Thomas Jr., Darnell G. Thomas, John D. Thomas, Jeraldine Hill, & Imogene Glenn.
Visitation will be on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at Rabenhorst Funeral Home (825 Government St., Baton Rouge, LA 70802) from 9:00 am until the Funeral Service at 11:00 am officiated by Pastor Oren Conner. The Graveside Service will follow at 1:30 pm at Our Lady of Pompeii Catholic Church Cemetery in Tickfaw, LA.
