A tremendously gifted and talented man, warm and attentive father, and a friend to all he met, James Walter Mackey departed this world and found eternal peace in His heavenly home on Monday, September 6, 2021. He was 70 years old, a native of Bridgeport, CT, and longtime resident of Baton Rouge. James served in the US Army and was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. He was a 1968 graduate of Broadmoor High School and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from LSU. He is survived by his mother, Marjorie Mackey; daughter Brennan M. Pizzolato (Corey); son Dr. Dane G Mackey (Erin); three brothers Peter V. Mackey (Sharon), Daniel P. Mackey (Karen), Thomas J. Mackey; sister Karleen M. Gremillion; former wife Gail G. Mackey; grandchildren, Penelope Pizzolato, Zoe Pizzolato, Annie Pizzolato, Audrey Mackey, George Mackey and Mary Kate Mackey; and numerous nieces and nephews all of whom he loved dearly. He is preceded in death by his father, Ralph V. Mackey; brother William J. Mackey, and brother-in-law Dr. Henry Gremillion. James “Jimmy” Mackey exhibited an array of God-given talents: natural athlete, master storyteller, wildly talented artist, gifted writer, extremely well-read, and had a heart of gold on top of it all. He never met a stranger and his friends and family have a wealth of stories and memories to last them a lifetime. His warm smile and wonderful laugh will be greatly missed. Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Saturday, September 11, 2021, from 10:00 am to 12:00pm at St. Thomas More Catholic Church followed by a Mass at 12:00 noon. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice.
