James Wiley Lowrey, 84, passed away on January 11, 2021 just one week after the death of his wife of 59 years, Patricia Ann Smith Lowrey. He was born in Coushatta, Louisiana on November 5, 1936. He was a master welder who devoted his life to providing for his family, including 19 years of employment at Ethyl Corporation.
In his younger years he was active in 4H, rode bulls in local rodeos, and served in the United States Navy. He was a member of American Rabbit Breeders Association and could build or repair just about anything. His specialty was Ritz crackers with peanut butter. After retirement he began hunting and tinkering with his computer.
He is preceded in death by his parents Lois Duncan and Elma Madden Lowrey, his son, Duane Edgar Lowrey, brother Douglas Edgar Lowrey and sister Linda Story.
He is survived by his eldest son and caretaker Daniel James Lowrey and his daughter Donna Faye Masula and his son-in-law Dan; his grandchildren: Kaitlin Lowrey Veale and her husband Nick, Duncan James Lowrey, and Caleb (his wife Nesya), Alyssa, Owen, Gabriel, Margo and Lydia Masula; his great-grandchildren: Kaleb, Aiden, Joseph, and Zackary Veale; his sister-in-law Bonnie Jo L. Anthony, his sister Sheron Walden, and his youngest sister, Margaret L. Aljamal and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday, January 15th from 4pm-7pm and Saturday, January 16th from 9am-10am at Family of Faith Southern Baptist Church at 10748 Perkins Rd in Baton Rouge. Funeral service will be at the same location from 10am-11am on Saturday, January 16th with a procession immediately following to Resthaven Cemetery.
