James Herman Granier met his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, November 3, 2022, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 78 years old. He was born in Morgan City, Louisiana, to Ferdinand and Mildred Bizette Granier on July 2, 1944. James was raised in New Roads, Louisiana, where he graduated from Poydras High School, Class of 1962.
James lived a remarkable life by establishing his very own work ethics at the tender age of ten, working many odd jobs, such as delivering groceries before school, picking up pecans, mowing yards, and picking cotton, throughout his childhood. During his senior year at Poydras, he suspended his jobs to participate in football, basketball, and track, excelling in sports and earning a reputation as a fast sprinter.
He graduated from Southwestern Louisiana University (ULL) with a degree in accounting. While attending his college classes, he realized that by focusing on the professors’ lectures, he could remember every word spoken without the need to take a single note.
James served as business manager of the Pointe Coupee Parish School Board for many years while simultaneously managing an income tax practice on the side. After retiring from the school board, he set out to pass the Certified Public Accountant’s examination, which he accomplished with his usual diligence and determination. He worked fulltime in his accounting and tax practice in New Roads until his retirement in July, 2022. Over the years, James amassed many clients whom he considered his friends. He enjoyed freely assisting and advising clients on their accounting and tax matters.
James is survived by his wife of thirty-three years, Marianne Montgomery Granier, son Jimmy Granier (Katherine), son Jeff Granier, and daughter Shelly Keasey (Scott), and their mother, Theresa Poirier Granier; five grandchildren, James (Tripp) Granier, III, Beau Granier, Lily Keasey, Camden Keasey, and Mason Granier, and his sister, Elsie G. Harrison.
James’ pride and joy were his children and grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Faye G. Parent, and his son, Michael J. Granier.
The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude and appreciation to Dr. Vince Cataldo, Dustin Denicola, NP, Dr. Gerald Barber, Hospice of Baton Rouge, and Home Instead Home Care Services for their compassion and care.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, November 12 at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Boulevard, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, beginning at 12 noon until services at 2:00 PM. Dr. Christopher DeGeorge, senior pastor of Parkview Baptist Church, will officiate. Private burial will follow at Greenoaks Cemetery.
