James R Buchtel

In loving memory of James Robert "Jim" Buchtel, who was called to his eternal rest on January 20, 2024, at the age of 86. Born on April 8, 1937, in Canton, OH, he was a beacon of Christ's love, embodying humility and generosity throughout his life. Jim dedicated his professional life to serving others as a Civil Engineer for the Public Health Service at Carville Hansons Disease Center and the Department of Environmental Quality. His service as a Captain in the Public Health Service from 1960 to 1980 reflected his respect for all of creation and his commitment to public well-being. A devout member of Holy Cross Anglican Church in Baton Rouge, Jim's faith was the cornerstone of his existence. He lived a life of gratitude, consistently expressing thankfulness for his blessings and the beauty of the world around him. An alumnus of The Ohio State University, where he earned a BCE, Jim's quest for knowledge was matched by his passion for model railroading with the Anaconda Model Railroaders, where he shared fellowship and joy with like-minded enthusiasts. He was also an avid genealogist that enjoyed connecting with his extended family across the country. Jim was a cherished husband to his wife Virgina (Jenny) Buchtel and a guiding light to his children: Lisa Buchtel Gehring, Ginger Wilson Lowe, Jason Buchtel, Joseph Wilson, Paul Wilson, and Michael Wilson. His legacy continues through his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will carry forward the virtues he instilled in them. The family invites you to attend a visitation at 1:00 p.m., with services to follow at 2:00 p.m. on January 29, 2024, at Holy Cross Anglican Church, on the campus of Grace Baptist Church, 630 Richland Ave., Baton Rouge, LA 70806.
