Hargett, Jack "Sarge" WhitneySenior Master Sergeant Jack "Sarge" Whitney Hargett passed away peacefully on September 16, 2014. Jack was one of five children born to William and Georgetta Hargett in Chicago, Illinois on September 23, 1932. Upon graduation from high school, Jack enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he attained the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. His military career spanned twenty years, during which time he was assigned to tours of duty in numerous European and Asian countries. Proudly, he guarded Air Force One for Presidents Kennedy and Johnson. A hard working, yet soft-spoken man, he served as both a security police officer and a recruiter. Subsequent to his retirement from the Air Force, Jack pursued a second career in the auto industry, earning a reputation as an honest and respectable manager and salesman. Throughout his adult life, Jack remained an avid fan of his hometown baseball team, the Chicago Cubs, and never gave up the dream of seeing them win the World Series. Over the years, many lost kitties came to discover Jack's compassionate and generous nature. His gifts were many and his needs so few. A single chocolate chip cookie went a long way towards winning a place in Jack's heart. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, William and Chuck Hargett, his sister, Jane Hargett Miller, and his wife, Hazel Hargett. Jack is survived by his son, John Whitney Hargett of Pollock Pines, California, his daughter, Jacqueline Remondet Wall of Washington, D.C., his granddaughter, Jeannette Wall of Brooklyn, New York, and his brother, George Hargett of Midwest City, Oklahoma. "Sarge" will be deeply missed by numerous friends, including Coochie Bouanchaud, David Bunn, David Dabadie, Mr. and Mrs. Carlos Flores, and his devoted son-in-law, David Wall.Friends and relatives are invited to Rabenhorst Funeral Home East Chapel, located at 11000 Florida Blvd on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 for a visitation between the hours of 5:00pm until 8:00 pm.
