GREGORIE, MR. ISAAC MCPHERSON IV. (MACK), a true gentleman, was born in Denmark, South Carolina on February 18, 1927 and was a longtime resident of Baton Rouge. He passed away on Wednesday, February 3, 2021. Visiting will be held at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday. Religious services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Gerrit Dawson and Rev. Jim Solomon. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the facilities request that visitors social distance and wear masks while in attendance.
Mack proudly served his country in the U.S. Army as a guard in the Nuremburg, Germany trials following World War II. He was a graduate of The Georgia Institute of Technology, where he was editor of The Technique, the school newspaper, and a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. He worked for Exxon Chemical for 42 years in various roles including as a division manager at the Baton Rouge plant and as plant manager in Melbourne, Australia. He was an elder and a deacon at the First Presbyterian Church for many years, past Chairman of the Baton Rouge Assembly, member of the Baton Rouge Country Club, and member of the City Club. Along with his wife, Florence, he established the Florence Kidd and Isaac Gregorie Sr. Professorship in French Studies at LSU. His hobbies included spending time with his family, investing in the stock market and playing golf.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Phelps; three daughters and two sons, Ann Kidd Gregorie, Nita Louise Gregorie and husband James Bond Lux Sr., Nancy Sue Gregorie and husband Dirk W. Burton, and Isaac M. Gregorie Jr., all of Baton Rouge, and Prentiss Clay Gregorie of Dallas; eight grandchildren, Florence and Laura Scarle, Ann Elizabeth Scarle Guillory and husband Kevin Guillory, James and Julia Lux, Shelby Lux and his wife Cordelia, Clay Burton, and Isaac M. Gregorie III; two great grandchildren, Emmaline Grace Guillory and Violet Elizabeth Lux; and a sister-in-law, Nita Kidd Harris. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anna Sue Gregorie and Isaac McPherson Gregorie; two sisters, Nancy Gregorie Dyer and Wren Gregorie Rawls; his first wife and mother of his children, Florence Kidd Gregorie, and his second wife, Ann Parnell Gregorie. Pallbearers will be Bond Lux, Dirk Burton, James Lux, Clay Burton, Isaac M. Gregorie III, and Kevin Guillory.
