Ida, a sweet kind generous loving soul born in Baton Rouge on November 17, 1925, passed at home from this world to the next on April 6, 2025, at age 99. She was a devoted wife and mother then grandmother, who returned to work in her 60's before retiring as an administrative assistant from Catholic Community Service's Foster Grandparents Program at age 86. Her life of dedicated service included volunteering in her children's various school and extracurricular programs and as a member of St. James Episcopal Church.
Ida is survived by three sons David Evans, IV (Rose Mary), Greg Evans (Karen), and Thomas "Tommy" Evans; four granddaughters Amy Evans Jansing (Jeff), Kelley Evans Handford (Chris), Katie Evans Moffit (Keith), and Juliette Evans; seven great grandchildren Beckett and Madeline Jansing, Lillian and Wistar Handford, and Turner, Faye, and Elise Moffit, as well as her wonderful nieces and nephews and their families. Ida was preceded in death by her parents C.A. and Elise Reed, her brothers Charles, Ray, and Jack Reed and their wives, her beloved husband of 67 years David M. Evans, and her daughter Catherine "Cathy" Elise Evans.
The family thanks all the health care professionals throughout the years that contributed to Ida's long and generally healthy life and ultimately the dedicated caregivers of The Hospice of Baton Rouge.
Visitation on Thursday April 10 at 10 a.m. in the parish hall of St. James Episcopal Church (205 N. 4th Street). Services follow at 11 a.m. in the church. Internment follows at Roselawn Cemetery (4045 North Street). Celebrant: Rev. Ralph F. Howe.
