Herman Joseph Cormier

Herman Joseph Cormier, a native of Church Point and a resident of Baton Rouge, passed away at the age of 89 on Sunday, January 15, 2017. He was married to his wife Ola for 52 years. He was a proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who loved spending time with family at his camp on the river. He treasured his Acadian heritage, French being his first language. He was the owner of Acadian Furniture for more than 30 years. He is survived by three daughters Karen Levy and her husband Mark of Baton Rouge; Denise Caldwell and husband Brent of Albany, LA; and Joan DeJean of Baton Rouge; four grandchildren Noah Levy and wife April of Ankeny, IA; Sam Levy of Baton Rouge; Brannon Byrd and wife Sheila of Iota; Tyler Caldwell and wife Kenley of Albany, LA.; four great-grandchildren René Levy; Mallory, Lilly, and Jack Byrd. His surviving siblings are Nathan and wife Jenora Cormier of Iowa, LA; Esther Prather and Kelly and wife Elaine Cormier of Opelousas. He was preceded in death by his wife Ola Mae Henry; his parents Treville and Devine Daigle Cormier; nine siblings Tula Bourgeois, Faye Comeaux, J.C. Cormier, R.S. Cormier, Mervin Cormier, Mae Lejeune, Hilman Cormier, Huey Cormier, and Melba Blanchard. He is also survived by devoted friend and neighbor Ann Manthe. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a Rosary at 7:15 PM. Visitation resumes Thursday, January 19, 2017 at St. Louis King of France Catholic Church, 2121 N. Sherwood Forest Blvd. from 12:00 PM until the Mass begins at 1:00 PM, with Fr. Michael Alello officiating. Interment will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be his grandsons and sons-in-law. Memorial donations may be made to St. Louis King of France Catholic Church, where he was a member for many years. The daughters wish to extend their appreciation to Linda Victorian for the care she has provided for the last four years.
