Grace Lanelle Easley Schmieder, a native of McComb, MS and resident of Baton Rouge, LA for 69 years, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 10, 2014 at the age of 83 years. She was born on May 20, 1930. As a child, Grace was awarded the title of Little Miss Pike County by performing a tap-dance up-side down on a platform her dad made for her. A 1948 graduate of Baton Rouge High School, she was voted that year as state vice-president of Future Homemakers of America. Grace studied piano for many years and was an excellent cook and seamstress. She was a member of Goodwood Baptist Church, First Christian Church, Florida Baptist Church and the Louisiana Federation of Music Clubs. Grace is survived by five children and their spouses, Don Ray Schmieder and wife Janet Schmieder; JoAnn Eiswirth and husband John G. Eiswirth; Nancy Calcote and husband Jimmy Calcote; Jenny Melancon and husband Bernie Melancon; and Mary Alice Durham and husband Darren Durham; a brother, Frank Hagan Easley; thirteen grandchildren, John D. Eiswirth, Jennifer E. deFrances, Michelle L. Melancon, Elizabeth A. May, Sandra S. Mowery, Aprille C. Wright, Briget K. Melancon, Paul D. May, James Brian Calcote, Jacqueline E. Tisdell, Cheryl M. Young, Diana C. Albarado, and David B. Melancon; and eighteen great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by husband Don Harol Schmieder; parents Thomas Jefferson Easley and Grace Louise Turner Easley and two brothers Thomas Carl Easley and Robert Hugh Easley. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home 9595 Florida Blvd. on Wednesday, March 12, 2014, from 5 PM until 8 PM and will resume Thursday, March 13, 2014, from 9 AM until funeral service at 10 AM.
