Baird, Gladys "BeBe" SchwabA retired EBR school system librarian and teacher, Gladys died at home on Thursday, April 09, 2015. She was 81 and a native and lifelong resident of Baton Rouge. Visitation will be at Ingleside United Methodist Church, 4264 Capital Heights Ave, on Monday, April 13, 2015 from noon until religious services at 1 pm conducted by Rev. Drew Sutton. Burial will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park. She is survived by a sister, Marguerite Schwab Varnado and her husband Charles B. Varnado, Sr.; two nieces, Lori Kay Black and Michele Denise Gonzales; nephew, Charles "Chuck" Varnado; great-nieces, Kaleigh Wood, Rayleigh Varnado, Kaitlyn Picou and Mary Black; great-nephews, Scott Bell, Jay Wood, and Gregory, Tyler and Connor Picou; and a great-great-niece, Chloe Wood. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, Clement Schwab and Gertrude Babin Schwab; and a sister, Gretchen Estelle Black. She was a member and Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of Friends of French. Gladys was a 1950 graduate of Istrouma High School and earned two Masters Degrees from LSU in Education and Library Science. Her family wishes to thank her sitters, Detra Williams and Ernestine Brumfield, and the staff at Life Source Hospice for their care and kindness during her illness.
