Gladys Lucille Bell

Gladys Lucille Bell passed away Friday, August 15, 2014, in Baton Rouge, La. She was born October 18, 1926, in Jamestown, Louisiana, the daughter of Edna Anderson Bell and Fred Bell, Sr. She grew up in Jamestown and moved with her family while in her teens to Lake Charles, La., where she graduated from LaGrange High School. She retired from the Louisiana Department of Transportation in Baton Rouge after working for some time for DOTD in Lake Charles. She also worked many years at Borden's in Lake Charles, La., as a bookkeeper. She also lived in Brusly and Port Allen, where she attended the Council on Aging Senior Center. She raised and is survived by three children, Gregory Brent Dupin and his wife Holley of Deer Park, TX, Lauren Loraine Varnado and her husband Paul of Pearland , TX, Janelle Bernice Riche and her husband Paul of Baton Rouge, La.. She was blessed with 9 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews all of whom she adored. She is preceded in death by both her parents, her oldest brother Fred Bell Sr. and his wife and her best friend Bernice LaFleur Bell, her younger brother Stanley, and baby brother Billy Bell. She is survived by her brother Ronnie Bell of Reston Va., and her sister Cynthia Bell of New York, NY, as well as aforementioned children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a saintly, kind-hearted woman known as Mom, Mam-ma, Aunt Lu, and to devoted friends as Lucille. She loved animals of all kinds and raised several pets especially her beloved dog Moby who lived to age 18 due to her loving care. She loved the Catholic Church, said her rosary every day, watched daily mass, and attended as often as she was able. Most recently she attended with her daughter Jan at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church. Her memorial service will be held at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church, 12663 Perkins Road, Baton Rouge, La. 70810 on Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014. Visitation will be at the church at 10 am followed by a Catholic rosary at 10:30 am, and then memorial service at 11:00 am. If desired, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Margaret's Episcopal Church at the above address.
