

"Gene Arlin "Pete" Mauk of Baton Rouge, Louisiana passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Carpenter House on Thursday, January 18, 2018. Pete was born on January 13, 1935 in McPhearson, Kansas to John Gilbert and Lois Bailey Mauk. He was the sixth child of ten. Pete graduated from Douglass High School and Wichita State University. Pete married the love of his life, Patricia "Pat" Worrell on December 4, 1954. They are the proud parents of two children, Pam and Dirk. Shortly after marriage, he was sent to Okinawa, Japan as an air traffic controller. Upon returning to the states, he completed his college courses and graduated with a bachelor's degree in business. He worked at Vulcan Chemicals while attending college and worked his way up in the company. In 1970, Pete was promoted to Purchasing Manager and moved his family to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He enjoyed the south, the warm weather, great food and the southern hospitality. He became an avid golfer and loved playing whenever possible. He was a member of the National Purchasing Managers Association where he served in many capacities, most proudly as President. After 27 years with Vulcan, he stepped out and joined the Piping & Equipment Company in sales. He loved his job, being with and meeting people. He loved making jokes, playing pranks and most importantly, doing for others. He was active in the parent organizations for his children's schools. He coached little league football, basketball and baseball. He loved being with his family, taking vacations, and just spending time together. His grandchildren were the apple of his eyes. He loved being at all of their sporting events and traveling out of town to watch them play or cheer. Pete was a very active member of Broadmoor Methodist Church. After retiring, he went on many mission trips to the Appalachian Mountains and after hurricane Katrina to the surrounding areas in need around the New Orleans area. He will be immensely missed but will live on in many hearts. Pete was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Patricia "Pat" W. Mauk. His parents, John Gilbert Mauk and Lois Bailey Mauk; siblings, Vernon Mauk (Jerri & Katherine), Bill Mauk, Barbara Wheeler (Jack), Joan Dennis (Lloyd Mitchell), Milton "Buddy" Mauk, Eleanor "Sis" Bloom (Everett), and Terry Mauk. Niece Condell Mitchell, nephews Troy Wheeler and John Mauk. Father and mother in law Arthur and Fannie Worrell; Brother and sister in laws, Joe Worrell (Vicki), Beryl Worrell, Wilma Simmons (John), Robert Worrell (Bernice), Mary Williams ( Jay). Nephews Richard Keeting and Rod Worrell. He is survived by his children, Pam Mauk Faciane and Dirk Mauk, son-in-law Bruce Faciane, daughter"“in-law Dawn Pevey Mauk. His grandchildren Joey Faciane, Kaleigh Mitchell (Jordy), Allysa Oliveto (Tyler), Cameron Mauk, Michael Mauk, Hunter Mauk and Madison Dauzat. His sister Connie Stevenson and brother Larry Mauk. Many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at Broadmoor United Methodist Church, 10230 Mollylea Drive. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Ochsner Neuroscience Innovation Fund or Broadmoor United Methodist Church Memorial Fund. The family will forever be grateful to the wonderful staff of Ochsner Baton Rouge and Ochsner Jefferson Highway, New Orleans for the great care given, especially Dr. C.J. Bui, the Neuro ICU team and therapy team; Sage inpatient therapy team and Sage outpatient therapy team, especially, Jamie, Ameila, Mari, & Stephanie; the staff of Carpenter House especially Stephen and for all of his golf buddies, church family and many friends who were so faithful in visiting him over the past ten months.
