Ray died Monday, March 12, 2012. He was a native of Baton Rouge, LA. He retired from Armco Steel Corporation with 37 years service. He was married to Bette (Dees) Core for 60 years. His dream of retirement was to spend time working with his main hobby, woodworking. He built his family two homes. Ray was well known in Baton Rouge for building wooden boats. He was a scout leader and deacon and heard of the Building Committee at St. Luke’s Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his mother Mamie Martha Brice Core, his father Frank Ray Core, Sr., and two sisters Debbie Thibodaux and Shirley Sauer.He is the father of two sons and two daughters: Chic Alan Core and wife Shirley Jo Russell Core, Bobby Ray Core, Judy Dreher, and Jackie Renee Funkhouser and husband U.S. Coast Guard Warrant Officer Michael Funkhouser. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren Niki Core Conger and husband Paul, Chris Meyers and wife Jill, Kris Arveso and wife Lindsey, and Jennifer Dreher, and great grandchildren Shawn and Dylan Funkhouser, Laney and Rusty Conger, January and Charles Meyers, and parker Arveso. There will be a visitation at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Thursday, March 15, 2012 from 6pm until 9pm. A private family burial will take place the following day.
