Frances Lynn Brister Edwards, a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, passed away surrounded by her family on June 14, 2023, at the age of 86. As a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend, Frances (Gran Gran) loved her family selflessly. She was a graduate of Baton Rouge High School and was a small family business owner with her husband, brother-in-law and sister-in-law. She is preceded in death by her husband, Alva Jack Edwards. They were married 50 years, loved to travel, entertain, and spend time with their family. She is also preceded in death by her parents, J. D. and Nell Brister, and brother John Brister. She is survived by her sons, Terry Edwards and his wife Lisa Launey, of Baton Rouge, Mark Edwards and his wife Penny Edwards, of Diamondhead, MS; sister Melba Prater, of Baton Rouge, sisters-in-law Helen Edwards, of Central, LA, and Maureen Brister, of Prairieville, LA. She was a loving grandmother to her four granddaughters: Alexis Decoteau, Rachelle Edwards Hassell, Allie Edwards and Reagan Edwards, and great grandchild, Kaylee James Decoteau. She is also survived by beloved nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins. Frances was a longtime member of First Baptist Church. We want to thank the staff at The Pearl at Jamestown in Baton Rouge as well as the staff of The Carpenter House and St. Joseph Hospice of Baton Rouge. A memorial service will be held at Rabenhorst Funeral Homes & Crematory East, 11000 Florida Blvd on Tuesday, June 20 at 10:30 am, with visitation beginning at 9:30 am. Interment will follow at Resthaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association to help further research and treatment.
