Flint Smith, Baton Rouge Fire Department Retiree Fire Captain Flint Smith, of Greenwell Springs, LA, passed away at home on May 19, 2023. Born in Baton Rouge, LA to parents Dennis Smith Sr. and Jemima Smith.
Flint was a Football player #32 and IHS graduate in 1975 then went on to begin his career with the Baton Rouge Fire Department on March 1, 1977, and retired on April 2, 2005. He is survived by wife, IHS graduate and cheerleader, Susan Bennett Smith, and four daughters, Brandy, Britney, Brianna, and Brooke Smith; father and mother in law, Jesse and Juanita Gardner. Eleven grandchildren, Destin, Daniel, Ashley, Alaina Melvin. Isabella, Derrick Jr., Allie Abshire. Valley, Violet, Brody, Brielle Smith. One great grandchild Harbor Jewel Melvin. Five brothers, Dennis Smith Jr., Greg, Butch, Tracy, and Randall Smith. Sisters- in -laws, Sylvia, Kathy, and Cindy Smith. Darlene Bennett Gurka, Jessica Juneau. One brother-in-law, Jason Bennett.
Preceded in death by parents Dennis Smith Sr. and Jemima Smith and sister, Sheila Smith.
Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home & Memorial Park. 9595 Florida Boulevard. Baton Rouge, LA 7081, from 9:00am-12:00pm on Thursday, May 25, 2023,
Services will begin at 12:00pm and will be officiated by Pastor Kelly Sullivan and wife Kacie Sullivan. Pall Bearers will be grandsons Destin and Daniel Melvin, Derrick Abshire Jr., Brody Smith. Nephews Louis Gurka Jr., Joey Bennett Jr. Brother-in-law Jason Bennett.
The family would like to thank Mr. Flint's cardiologist for the help and care that was given to Mr. Flint.
