Mr. Emmett Lee Irwin, a resident of Baton Rouge, passed away Thursday, April 20, 2023 at the age of 78. Emmett was born in Port Arthur, Texas on November 7, 1944 to parents Thomas and Nellie Irwin. He earned his Master’s Degree in Social Work at LSU and became a Social Worker for East Baton Rouge Family Court and Our Lady of the Lake.
Emmett loved singing, writing poetry, visiting Zorba’s, and listening to music. He loved singing so dearly, he served as Cantor at St. Aloysius Catholic Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Dodie Bernhard Irwin; daughters, Rebecca Irwin and Amy Irwin Crochet; grandchildren, Jordan Minton, Haley Baker, Madison Baker and Allie Baker; great-grandchildren, Robert and James Minton; sister, Mary Lou Catalina and brother, Tom Irwin.
Preceded in death are his parents, Tom and Neille Irwin and Mary Lou Catalina.
A celebration of life gathering will take place at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA. on Friday, April, 28, 2023 from 10:00am until 12:00pm. Interment will immediately follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park.
