On Sunday, December 17, 2017, our loving Christian Mother, Polly Elizabeth Batten Wells, born on September 18, 1923, was called home to heaven by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at the age of 94. She was a longtime resident of Baton Rouge but a native of Selma, NC. She graduated from Micro Highschool, and East Carolina University with a BS degree in Home Economics and Science. She retired from the East Baton Rouge School System after 25 years as a Dietician over several school. God blessed her with a beautiful singing voice that she used to glorify Him at Istrouma Baptist, Harrell’s Ferry Rd., and Florida Blvd. Baptist churches. Preceded in death by her husband, James Daniel Wells, of 45 years; parents, Jacob Freeman Batten and Polly Mae Parish Batten; three brothers and five sisters. She has two remaining siblings in NC, Dr. Woodrow Batten and Myra Jean Batten Cooper, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. Elizabeth is survived by her children: Anita Wells Kiger, wife of Charles Patrick Kiger; Patricia Lynn Wells Vandergriff, wife of Dr. Ragan M. Vandergriff III; and Jeffrey B. Wells and his wife, Jo Ellen Lee Wells. She has four grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. She loved all of her family very much and prayed for them daily. She was a great Prayer Warrior and Encourager, precious to her family and friends. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd, on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at 1pm until Life Celebration Service beginning at 2pm. Interment will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to your church, missions, or St. Jude Childrens Hospital.
