Elizabeth Cecile Uter Robertson

Elizabeth Cecile Uter Robertson, of Baton Rouge, died peacefully at her residence in the early morning hours of Monday, July 7, 2014.  She was 98 years old.  A memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 11, 2014, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church.  The family will have a wake immediately following the service in the church family center.  Elizabeth was born the eighth of eight children on June 16, 1916, at Laurel, Mississippi.  Her parents were Frank M. and Frances O'Connor Uter.  The family moved to Baton Rouge when Elizabeth was two years old.  Her father worked for the railroad and later as a blacksmith at the new Standard Oil Co. refinery, where he died in an accident in 1919.  She was graduated from St. Joseph's Academy in 1932.  After part-time studies at LSU she went to work for the refinery, which had employed her father and several other of her family members.  She retired from the company in the late 1960s after 35 years of service.  Later she worked part-time for the City-Parish Library at its downtown and Goodwood branches.  She was a volunteer for many years at OLOL.  In 1955 Elizabeth married Edward Swayze Robertson of Shreveport, and they had two sons, Thomas Edward and William Gerard.  She was preceded in death by her parents and husband as well as her sisters Genevieve, Ellen, Catherine and Gertrude, and her brothers Frank, Daniel and Lawrence.  She is survived by her sons Tom and his spouse Lynn, of Port Allen, and Bill, of Shreveport; numerous nieces and nephews; four grandchildren, Taylor and his spouse, Angie, of Dallas, Hunter and his spouse Judson, of Princeton, New Jersey, Elizabeth, of Washington, D.C. and Evan, of Shreveport; and two great-grandchildren, Grace and Elise, of Dallas.  Elizabeth was a caring woman who was committed to her church, family, friends and work.  It was amazing to see her rise to the occasion time and time again as people came to visit her.   She will be greatly missed.  Late in life she was fortunate to have been cared for by a remarkable group of people.  Among them are Rosa Douglas, Lisa Ellis, Anita King, Hazel Thomas, and Rochelle Wallace.  Thanks to In His Care Hospice.  We would also like to acknowledge the residents of Village Woods.  Through the years, and especially recently, they have been a source of considerable support.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Joseph's Academy.
