Born June 8, 1935 to Emma Ruth and Elie Omer Laville, Betty passed away on May 5, 2021 of COVID related complications at the age of 85. She was a 1953 graduate of Redemptorist High School and attended Southeastern Louisiana University where she met her future husband Donnie. They married in 1956 and she spent the next 20 years as a military wife, traveling the United States and the world on Donnie’s many tours of duty with the U.S. Air Force. Upon his retirement in 1975, they settled in Baton Rouge. Betty worked briefly at Goudchaux’s department store until her father’s death when she became co-owner and operator of Rel-Art until its closing. She was a volunteer at St. Gerard elementary school, eventually working in the front office and finally serving as the school’s librarian until her retirement. She was a true Southern lady, who never met a stranger and could always be counted on to lend a helping hand or a friendly and compassionate ear. She was a loving and supportive wife to Donnie; a nurturing and encouraging mother to her three children; and a doting Granny B to her five grandchildren and great-grandchild. She will be forever in our hearts. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, brother Donald J. Lockwood, and sister Martha Lockwood Dupuy. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Donnie F. Mauroner, daughter Jodi and husband Scott Hinton, son Louis and wife Donna, and son Donnie F. II “Fred” and wife Annick; grandchildren Claire Mauroner Brown and husband Justin, Andrew Mauroner and wife Amanda, and Emma, Aidan, and Ava Mauroner, as well as her step-grandchildren Brett Hinton, Holly Hinton Buteau and husband Thomas; and great-grandchild Lillian Brown. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Nanette Westbrook and Vita Lockwood and brother-in-law Ralph Dupuy as well as a host of nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Hospice of Baton Rouge and all the staff at the Butterfly Wing at the Baton Rouge General for making mom’s final days as comfortable and painless as possible. Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at Rabenhorst East Funeral Home, 11000 Florida Blvd., from 10:00 a.m. until a funeral service at 12:00. A private interment will follow the service.
