Elizabeth “Betty” Klein Bahlinger passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family. Louisiana native and lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, she was born on March 9, 1925. Betty graduated from St. Joseph Academy in 1942, where she made many lifelong friends. She received a Bachelor degree from LSU in 1946, where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi and the LSU Purple Jackets. After graduation she worked for the city of Baton Rouge, located in what is now the City Club on North Blvd. After several years there, she began work at Standard Oil. She enjoyed traveling during these years with good friends Dotty Stuart and Betty Ann Bogan.
In 1958, Betty married the love of her life, Marion John Bahlinger. Together they raised three children. She made sure there was a delicious meal on the table every night. She became quite the seamstress, sewing many beautiful dresses for her girls and herself and enjoyed making quilts. She was a member of the Woman’s Club, serving on their board for several years. She was a member of the Audubon Chapter of the DAR and in later years enjoyed volunteering at the St. Aloysius Catholic Church office. She is survived by her husband Marion of 63 years, her children Ann Bernard (Tommy), John Louis Bahlinger, Katherine Bahlinger Surek, her grandchildren Mary Katherine & Michael Bernard, Mary Jo, Katherine Lee, Claire & Jack Surek. She is preceded in death by her parents Mary Billiu & John L. Klein. The mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Aloysius Catholic Church on Friday, April 9, 2021 at 11:00 AM. A rosary will be said shortly before the mass.
