Edward Spiess

Edward Robert Spiess, a native of New Orleans and resident of Baton Rouge passed away on June 2, 2023, at the age of 96. He will be remembered for his story-telling, his quick wit and bad puns. He loved old cars, good food, gardening, travel and tinkering. He always had a project. He was an active member of Faith Presbyterian Church. He retired from AT&T in 1986 after working 35 years for the Phone Company. He is survived by his four children: Elaine C. Spiess of Boise, ID, Eileen Spiess Stark and her husband Carl of Baton Rouge, David E. Spiess and his wife Sandra of Greenwell Springs and Ernest C. Spiess and his fiancée Kathy of Hendersonville, TN; fifteen grandchildren, Melanie and Kevin Moats of Boise, ID, Ginger Rogers of Boise, ID, Emily and Barrett Gettig of Kernville, CA, Joshua and Davina Causey of Boise, ID, Daniel and Shannon Ball of Baton Rouge, LA, Megan and Justin Neel of Houston, TX, James and Sara Mungall of Baton Rouge, LA, Ian and Emily Mungall of Prairieville, LA, Matthew and Elizabeth Bambarger of Asheville, NC, Brittany B. and Phillip LaVergne of Greenwell Springs, Dustin and Joy Spiess of Central, Hannah Spiess of Central, Jacob and Sichel Spiess of Johnson City, TN, Matthew and Amanda Spiess of Nashville, TN, Adam and Krystal Spiess of Hendersonville, TN; twenty-nine great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Bernice P. Spiess, his parents, Edward Albin Spiess, Jr and Virginia Beverly Spiess, his brother Lawrence F. Spiess, his sister Doris Spiess Nuss and daughter in law, Lisa Rae Verhein Spiess. Pallbearers will be grandsons Daniel Ball, Matthew Bambarger, Joshua Causey, Ian Mungall, James Mungall, Dustin Spiess, Matthew Spiess, Adam Spiess and great grandson Troy Inman. Honorary pallbearers are Phillip Lavergne, Justin Neel and Jacob Spiess. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA, on Saturday, June 10, 2023 from noon until funeral service time of 2:00pm. Interment will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Baker, LA.
