A fine man and wonderful husband and father, Edward Cheek, passed away Friday, March 16th, 2018 at the age of 89. Originally from North Louisiana, he has been a resident of Baton Rouge for over 60 years. Ed was a Korean War veteran. He worked in sales for Westinghouse, CGR, and Philips Medical selling medical equipment and also designing hospital rooms to accommodate these systems. Ed was known to everyone for his quick smile, mischievous grin and kind words. He was a clever man with a quick wit and pleasant personality. His love for others was always evident in his eagerness to help and his fondness for social gatherings. He was a lover of people, animals, books and gardening. He was a true southern gentleman. His Bible study gave special meaning to his life. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Barbara Turner Cheek. Edward had 3 children, Kimberly Pickren, Laura Aguilar and Johnnie Cheek(predeceased). He will be dearly missed by all of his family including his two son-in-laws, Greg Pickren of Oldsmar, Florida and Richard Aguilar of New Orleans and his four grandchildren, Sage Pickren (Nashville), Ryan Pickren (Seattle), John Aguilar (New Orleans) and Alexander Aguilar (New Orleans). Other family members include his brother, Kenneth Cheek and his wife, Helen; and sister, Sherry Baldone and her husband, Buzz. Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Lucille Cheek; Sister, Jerry Woodard and her husband Jack Woodard. Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 24th at 1:00 pm at Greenoaks Funeral Home (9595 Florida Blvd. Baton Rouge, LA 70815). Services begin at 2:00 pm and will be conducted by Jimmy Gill, Jr., JD. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alzheimer’s Research.
