Dr. Earl J. Rome, Jr. passed away at 5:35 a.m. on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 following his courageous battle with cancer. Dr. Rome was born on January 31, 1947 in Baton Rouge, LA. He was a man of many accomplishments and even more friends. Some of his accomplishments include achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. He was the manager on the 1964 Baton Rouge High School State Championship football team, an experience that he greatly treasured. He graduate from Baton Rouge High School with the class of 1965. After attending LSU Baton Rouge, following his junior year, he was accepted in the first class (Charter Class) of the LSU Medical Center School of Dentistry graduating in 1972. He practiced dentistry in Baton Rouge for 40 years. He served as the president, president elect, and past president of the Baton Rouge Dental Association. He served as the president and past president of the Board of Directors of the Plantation Trace Resident’s Association. He was preceded in death by his father, Earl J. Rome, Sr., and his mother, Veda Hoyt Rome. He is survived by his two brothers who were at his bedside when he passed away, William W. (Bill) Rome and Robert R. (Robbie) Rome and his wife, Janis Reed Rome; his two nephews, James A. (Jimmy) Rome and Robert R. (Rob) Rome, Jr and his wife, Michelle Soileau Rome. He was very proud of Rob and Michelle’s “firecrackers”, his great nephews, Tyler and Gavin, and his new great niece Breanna. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends who loved him. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 from 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Visitation will continue at First Baptist Church on Thursday, December 22, 2016 from 1:30 p.m. until Funeral Service begins at 2:30 p. m. Pallbearers will be James A. Rome, Robert R. Rome, Jr., Dr. Jim Keller, Dr. Eric Day, Chris McDaniel, and Tullis McKnight. Arrangements under the direction of Greenoaks Funeral Home, Baton Rouge, LA.
