Earl Reynolds

A brilliant, talented, and kind soul returned to the loving embrace of his Savior on Friday evening, June 17, 2022. Born on September 30, 1941, Earl was a Baton Rouge native and the second youngest of eight brothers and sisters. Earl was 80 at the time of his passing.

Earl was a proud Bulldog and graduate of Baton Rouge High. He would smile when friends regaled his Bulldog years on the basketball team, the cheer team, and his crowning as “Best Dancer”. He could certainly cut a rug. Thereafter, he attended Louisiana State University where he initially attained a Bachelor of Arts degree in General Studies and a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. An ROTC graduate, as well, Earl was then commissioned into the United States Air Force and became a pilot. Following flight school, Earl served in country and in theatre during the Vietnam War. The family just discovered over the weekend that he was awarded at least four Air Medals, “for meritorious achievement while participating in aerial flight … (where) outstanding airmanship and courage were exhibited in the successful accomplishment of important missions under extremely hazardous conditions.” Earl was a proud and competitive man, but never a braggart.

While stationed in Charleston, South Carolina, Earl met his soulmate, Pamela Ann Reynolds, a Registered Nurse serving in the United States Navy. They were married on December 28, 1968. Thereafter, Earl decided to move back to his native Baton Rouge and attend the LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center. After attaining his Juris Doctorate, he entered the fulltime practice of law. Earl became Board Certified in Tax Law, and again went back to LSU for his Certified Public Accountant degree. For well over twenty years, Earl remained in the Air Force Reserve flying Hurricane Hunter tracking missions, until finally retiring with recognition and honor as a Lieutenant Colonel.

Earl was a loving husband, father of three boys, and the grandfather of five beautiful, accomplished grandchildren. Earl was a prolific reader; loved attending to his faith and church; and loved to travel the world. Earl loved to sing. Almost any song, whether popular karaoke songs or hymns in his beloved Church of the Way Presbyterian Choir. Earl filled our lives with laughter and joy.

Earl is survived by son, Aidan, daughter-in-law, Jessica, and grandchildren, Liam Patrick and Mairin Elizabeth; son, Chad, daughter-in-law, Julie, and grandchildren, Ashley Ann and Grant Murphy; son, Patrick, daughter-in-law, Melissa, grandson, Davin; and two sisters, Mary Alice Suydam and Rosemary Lewis. Earl was also very close to his nephew, Andrew Reynolds (whom he counted as a son), Andrew’s wife, Brooke, their daughter, Eleanor, son, Pearson, along with his countless cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The family would like to acknowledge and extend appreciation to Earl’s caregiver, Christopher Coleman, and his team. The entire Reynolds family is eternally grateful.

Visitation will be held at Faith Presbyterian Church on Thursday, June 23, starting at 10:00 with a funeral service to follow at noon. Burial services and interment will be held at Greenoaks Memorial Park.
