Dyke Martin

"A native of Georgetown, LA and long-time resident of Baton Rouge and Summerfield, LA, Dyke passed away on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at the age of 91.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.  He had a zest for life and the love from his friends and family gave him humor, courage, and made him strong.  His love of God gave him peace.  He was a resident of the Baptist Children's Home in Monroe, LA until the age of 13.  He received his high school education in Dry Prong and attended Northwestern State University.  Dyke volunteered for service in the United States Marine Corps during World War II and was recalled to active duty for service in the Korean Conflict.  Throughout his life, Dyke raised and loved horses and he also loved his country home in Summerfield, LA.  He was a member of Rings and Ivy Sunday School Class of First United Methodist Church in Baton Rouge, Galvez Chapter of SAR, Claiborne Parish Lions Club, and Gideon's International. He is preceded in death by his parents Alvia and Armor Martin; step-father Curtis Lanis Arnold; siblings, Gracie Calabra (husband Jim),  Lorrine Futrell (husband Wiley),  Maurine Quebedeaux (husband Murphy), and Harry Martin (wife Betty). Dyke is survived by his wife of 48 years Sally Ann Rockhold Martin of Baton Rouge, LA; children, Cindy Featherson (husband Carter) of Covington, LA, Scott Martin (wife Karen) of Buda, TX, Bryan Martin (wife Leslie) of Covington, LA, David Martin of Baton Rouge, LA, Mark Martin (wife Melissa) of Baton Rouge, LA, Jeffrey Martin (wife, Katie) of Lafayette, LA, Shalane Crick (husband Chris) of Baton Rouge, LA; 18 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.  Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at Rabenhorst Funeral Home (825 Government Street, Baton Rouge, LA 70802) from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm.  Visitation will continue on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at First United Methodist Church (930 North Boulevard, Baton Rouge, LA 70802) from 10:00 am until the Funeral Service at 11:00 am.  The Graveside service will be on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at 10:00 am at the Summerfield Cemetery in Summerfield, LA.  Pallbearers will be his grandsons and Honorary Pallbearers will be Robb Ginn, Mike Schouest, Shaun McGerry, Charlie Smith, Earl Divine, Alf Pike, Jim Anderson, Clyde C. Hightower, Bob Patterson, and Bobby McKenzie.  The family would like to thank Dyke's caregivers Barbara Gray, Lou Kennedy, and Lottie Singleton.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Dyke's name may be made to the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home (P.O. Box 4196, Monroe, LA 71211), First United Methodist Church (930 North Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA 70802), or Gideons International's Camp Claiborne (P.O. Box 151, Homer, LA 71040).
