He was born July 22, 1930, inOrange, Texas. He moved to Louisianaat an early age and was reared inWeeksIsland. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He attended LSU and graduated in 1957 with a degree in chemical engineering. He was an avid football fan and attended all of the games for many years. He worked in the chemical industry in Texasand Louisiana. He was employed by Allied Chemical Co. for 25 years. At the time of his retirement, he was president of Paxon Polymers of Baton Rouge. He died at 5:15 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2006, at his home in Baton Rouge at age 76 after an eight-year battle with Parkinson's disease. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Friday, Nov. 10, was from 5 p.m.to 8 p.m.Visiting resumes at the funeral home chapel on Saturday, Nov. 11, from 9 a.m.until religious service at 10 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Thomas Ranzino of St. Jean Vianney Catholic Church. Interment inGreenoaksMemorial Park. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Shirley Medver Bonin; four children, Donald J. Bonin Jr. and wife Lynda, Brett T. Bonin and wife Dale, Laurie A. Bonin, and Nancy B. Orloff; five grandchildren, Jonathan A. Bonin, Kellie E. Bonin, Blakeley A. Bonin, Brittany N. Bonin and Elise A. Orloff; and a sister, Diane B. Duhon. He was preceded in death by his parents, A.J. and Anna M. Bonin; and a brother, Walter W. Bonin. The family wants to give special thanks to caregiver Bobbie Stevenson, the neighbors who were always willing to be of assistance when needed and the Baton RougeFire Department on Sharp Road.
