Cindy B. Landry, a native of Bunkie and resident of Baton Rouge, age 74, departed this life on Monday, April 4, 2022. After a brief battle with cancer, Cindy passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Patrick; two daughters, Jeanne and husband Patrick Fellows, Cynthia and husband Shane Sandefer; brother Lynn and wife Sheila Blankenship; and grandchildren Paige and Ian Fellows and Chloe, Aidan and Collin Sandefer. She was proceeded in death by her son, Patrick “Vaughn” Landry, parents Charles Vaughn and Gene Blankenship and brother, Ronald Blankenship.
Cindy was born September 2, 1947 in Hendricks, MN and raised in Bunkie, LA. She graduated from Bunkie High School in 1964 and soon after married and relocated to Baton Rouge. As a mother, Cindy found her calling. Her ability to nurture and care for those she loved was truly unmatched. She raised three children but became a second mother to many more, often taking in friends of her children for days or weeks without a second thought. Becoming a grandmother was an opportunity for Cindy to again shower her family with love. She loved her 5 grandchildren immensely and made sure to tell them at every possible opportunity, being present for every sporting event, recital, concert or special day that she possibly could.
After losing her only son, Cindy discovered a way to love and survive by joining the Baton Rouge Chapter of Compassionate Friends, a support group dedicated to those who have lost children. She later was honored to serve as their chapter leader, a title she held for 7 years. Cindy then served on the national board of TCF until her passing. Cindy felt she was called to serve and help others in their grief journey. In addition to this important work, Cindy also spent much of her free time quilting with her dear friends or volunteering for Second Chance Dog Rescue of LA. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
Visitation will be held Saturday, April 9, 2022 at First United Methodist Church 930 North Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA 70802, beginning at 1:00 p.m., with religious service to follow at 3:00 p.m. Entombment and reception immediately following at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd. Pallbearers will be Lynn Blankenship, Shane Sandefer, Patrick Fellows, Ian Fellows, Aidan Sandefer and Collin Sandefer.
