Corey loved the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and boating. He never met a stranger and was always there to listen or lend a hand. Corey especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Corey attended Christ the King Catholic Church in Baton Rouge.
Corey went to St. Thomas More Catholic Elementary School and Catholic High School in Baton Rouge. He was an Offensive Lineman on the Catholic High Football team and a member of the 2010 State Championship Wrestling team. He attended the University of Louisiana-Lafayette where he was an Offensive Lineman on the Ragin’ Cajuns Football team and was part of the 2011 New Orleans Bowl Championship team.
Corey followed in his father’s footsteps working many years for Stanley Steemer in Baton Rouge after College starting as a cleaning technician and ended up an assistant manager.
Corey is survived by his father, Martin and stepmother Tara of Tampa FL, his mother Carol of Baton Rouge, loving brother Kyle of New Orleans, his maternal Grandparents, Denny and Elaine Gerst of Caldwell, OH, Aunts and Uncles – Beth & Paul Hegedus, Amy & John Engle, Megan & Kevin Stone, Mike & Andrea Schmidt, Jo Ellen & Andy Miller, Mark & Terri Gerst and Karen Gerst; and many cousins, teammates and friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal Grandparents, Richard & Barbara Schmidt of Hamilton OH and Uncle, Rick Gerst.
Visitation will be held on April 22, 2021 at 5:00 pm at Rabenhorst Funeral Home & Crematory, 825 Government Street, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Funeral Mass will be held on April 23, 2021 at 11:00 am at St Aloysius Catholic Church, 2025 Stuart Ave, Baton Rouge, LA. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to The Richard & Barbara Schmidt Scholarship Fund, c/o Badin High School, 571 New London Rd., Hamilton OH 45013.
