

Clay Anthony Waggenspack, Jr., born February 24, 1926, to Helene Laville Waggenspack and Clay Waggenspack, died at home January 16, 2015. Clay was married for almost 63 years to Augusta Harper Waggenspack. He and Augusta have four children: Claire Hayes, Jim Waggenspack, Anne Sporn and John Waggenspack. Keely Hayes, Tom Sporn and Dana Waggenspack are his sons- and daughter-in-law. They have ten grandchildren: Steven and Margaret Whitley; Sam, Catherine, Sarah and Philip Sporn; Lauren, Chrissie and Spike Schwab and James Waggenspack; also Steven's wife Becky Whitley and their son Jackson. Clay's two brothers Laville and Guy Waggenspack preceded him in death. His sister Carmel Mask, sister-in-law Jody Waggenspack and many nieces and nephews survive him. Clay earned BS and MD degrees from LSU, becoming a doctor at age 21. He practiced medicine in Baton Rouge from 1954 through 1995 and taught for many years at Charity Hospital and Earl K. Long Hospital. He was a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians and received the Physician's Laureate from the American College of Physicians. Then in 2001, in retirement, he earned a Master's Degree in Liberal Arts from LSU. The Mass of Resurrection will be held at St. Joseph's Cathedral Monday January 19th. The family will receive visitors at St.Joseph's Cathedral on Monday, January 19, 2015 from 1:30 PM until the Mass of Resurrection at 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the Waggenspack family requests donations to Hammond Strawberry Fields, 116 W. Thomas Street, Hammond LA 70401.
