Another one of the members of America's Greatest Generation has passed away. Clarence A. Stone, Jr. died on March 18, 2016, at the Oakmont Healthcare&Rehab Center of Katy in Houston, Texas. C.A., as he was affectionately known by family and close friends, recently celebrated his 94th birthday. He was born March 12, 1922, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to Clarence A. and Lorena H. Stone. He was preceded in death by his parents and his only sister, Mrs. Lloyd (Katherine) A. Longacre. As a 1940 graduate of Baton Rouge High School, C.A. placed second place in the state shot put competition. He was registered to enroll as a freshman at LSU, but chose to enlist in the United States Marine Corps. He was sent to San Diego for basic training, and then to Norman, Oklahoma, as a weapons instructor for 2 years. Stone was then stationed in Munda, New Georgia, in the Solomon Islands, and served 2 more years in the South Pacific as a MP. He was honorably discharged in 1946. After returning home from his military service, C.A. worked for several local businesses before finding a permanent job working for the U.S. Rubber Company (Uniroyal). He was a dedicated employee and a loyal member of the local United Rubber Workers Union for 30 years. He was also proud to be a life-long Democrat. Clarence was married to Connie Broussard Stone for 62 years. She died in 2011. They raised two sons: Clarence Wayne Stone (Houston, TX) and Michael Louis Stone (Carrollton, GA). He was blessed with 5 grandchildren: Andrea Stone Bekurs (Patrick), Gregory Paul Stone, Meagan Stone Schall (Bill), Marshall Patrick Stone, and Madison Archer Stone. C.A. also has two great children: Ethan McCartney Bekurs and Darcy Elaine Schall. Visitation will be Tuesday evening, March 22, 2016, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again from 10:00 a.m. till 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at the Rabenhorst East Funeral Home, 11000 Florida Blvd. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 23, 2016. Interment will be at Greenoaks Memorial Park, 9595 Florida Blvd., immediately following the funeral services where a graveside military service will be performed.
