Charles W. "C.W." Cambre Jr., a loving husband and father, passed away at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29, 2011. Survived by his wife of nearly 65 years, Vera Robertson Cambre; son, Charles W. "Chuck" Cambre and wife Beverly; son, R. Daryl Cambre and wife Suzanne; daughter, Danielle Pace and husband Mike; son, Daniel P. Cambre; four grandchildren, Melissa Wilkes, Charles W. "Charlie" Cambre IV, Michael Pace Jr. and John Weld Cambre; two great-grandchildren, Megan and Morgan Cambre; and a third great-grandchild, soon to be delivered to Charlie and Heather Cambre. Preceded in death by his father, Wilton; mother, Fannie; infant sister, Stella Mae; and great-aunt, Judith Martinez. Charles was a lifelong resident of St. Gabriel and served honorably with the 1262nd Combat Engineer Company in the European Theater during World War II. He retired as dock coordinator from the Exxon Mobil Baton Rouge refinery with 38 years service. Following his retirement, he worked for Mid-Stream Fuel Co. for 10 years. He took special pride in volunteering his time chairing and serving on numerous boards and councils. He served as grand knight of Knights of Columbus Council 3796 and also was a member of the St. Gabriel American Legion post. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., Wednesday, Aug. 31, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation at St. Gabriel Catholic Church on Thursday, Sept. 1, from 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Charles Landry, celebrant. Entombment in the church mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations to St. Gabriel Catholic Church.
