Caroline "Carrie" R Hernandez

Caroline Marie (Carrie) Ragusa Hernandez, died peacefully at the age of 102 on January 13, 2021. She was a beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Daughter, Aunt and Wife. Carrie was the second oldest of twelve children. She was born in Torbert, Louisiana on September 16, 1918 to Samuel J. Ragusa and Mary Cicero Ragusa. She graduated as valedictorian from Livonia High School. Upon graduation she enrolled and graduated from LSU. She worked various governmental jobs until she married and had her 3 sons. After that she began her twenty-five year teaching career. In the later years of teaching, she started Shop on the Street, a very successful clothing store. She loved shopping all sales, but especially those at Goudchaux’s and Cheneverts. She is survived by three sons and their wives, Jim and Kathy Hernandez, Jeff and Marta Hernandez, Kenny and Sandy Hernandez; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey (Renee), Ty, Jennifer Porter, Courtney (Jamie), Brad (Ann), Cameron (Candice), Jessica Zylicz and 17 great-grandchildren; sisters Marie Capone and Ina Claire Dugas and sister-in-law Diane Ragusa. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Adam Hernandez, Sr.; parents Samuel J. and Mary Cicero Ragusa; brothers Ben F. Ragusa, John J. Ragusa, Huey Ragusa, Samuel Ragusa, infant brother Sammy Ragusa; sisters Marguerite Parsons, Francis Ann Noto, Rosalie Holder and JoAnn Tiffee. Visitation will be at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd. on Monday, January 18 from 4-6 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church on Tuesday, January 19 at 12 noon. Entombment at Greenoaks Mausoleum. Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Hernandez Jr., Courtney Hernandez, Brad Hernandez, Cameron Hernandez, Ethan Hernandez, and Camden Zylicz. Honorary pallbearer is Ty Hernandez. Junior pallbearers will be Carter, Corbin and Jack Hernandez. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
